Investment Strategies
Success is most often driven by the fundamentals: deliver a quality product, with an expected level of service and price, at a cost that allows the enterprise to prosper.
A basic part of the success formula for the restaurant industry is the development of a corporate culture that aligns employee behavior in support of consumer requirements. Most restaurant companies, large and small, would say that they already do this. But most do not.
According to a recent Forum Corporation Executive Opinion Survey, more that 49% of senior executives are dissatisfied with the linkage between corporate strategy and training in their businesses. This means that half of the training done in corporations around the country might not be linked to the business goals of the company. If the NRA's Education Foundation is right, and restaurants spend about $4.3 billion on new employee training annually, then the waste is huge.
Restaurant Ecademy believes that active restaurant companies should invest where they will get a return:
- Control recruiting and training expenses. Training managers to hire, train and performance plan their teams.
- Reduce turnover. More than half of the people who leave a job do so because of problems with their manager. With turnover rates for all employees ranging between 28% for managers and 200% for counter help in some quick serve restaurants, Restaurant Ecademy believes that managers can be better trained to lead, motivate, and coach to more effectively retain employees.
- Control training quality and therefore service quality. Create a learning system that is programmatic, focused and cost effective so that employees will be informed and accountable.
- Improve service levels. And in the process create a predictably positive experience that will increase repeat business, customer counts, and sales volume.
Restaurant Ecademy offers programs to meet three general categories of need:
- Communication between management and the employees that makes the vision and the mission clear.
- Training to comply with federal and local law and regulations.
- Training to improve profitability and customer satisfaction, and motivate and retain managers and non-managerial employees.
